A Graphic Understanding of Office Real Estate and the Pandemic

There has been an increase in clear, concise information in graphic story telling by major publications. Forbes had a great graphic story on Cyptocurrency. The Washington Post explained the lifecycle of cicadas this spring. Now, the New York Times has a beautiful graphic story on the impact of the pandemic on the Empire State Building and the businesses located there – or that are moving out. The idea of the graphic article is to understand the impact of the pandemic on urban commercial real estate by understanding impact on one, iconic building – the Empire State Building. It is an excellent example of using well-researched information as an asset that has more meaning through beautiful graphic representations so people can say, “I SEE what you are talking about.

GAO Report on Upfront Financing of Federal Buildings

The ALN always likes when the U.S. Government Accountability Office publishes a report because they almost always represent a structured approach to asset management as being a value to the nation. The recent U.S. GAO report titled is, “Capital Fund Proposal: Upfront Funding Could Benefit Some Projects, but Other Potential Effects Not Clearly Identified.” The report points to an OMB proposed Revolving Fund that would allow agencies to get buildings paid for upfront and allow payback over 15 years. This approach was presented an ALN annual conference in 2017. It is time to bring this winning facility asset management approach into reality.
