The Impact of the 6th Asset Leadership Week

The 6th Asset Leadership Week began again this year at the National Academies of Sciences and again concluded with education and advocacy on Capitol Hill.

Organized by the Asset Leadership Network, this Week highlights the dramatic benefits gained by professionals who take a rational, systematic approach to management of assets in all categories, including infrastructure, water, energy, personal property, IT, facilities. . . everything.

The Asset Leadership Network has one mission – making a positive impact on asset management for asset owners; the positive reception of the ALN National Asset Leadership Strategy by legislative staff members and the excellent quality of presentations by high-level executives indicates the mission is being achieved. (See presentations here)

Long-standing participants in the annual Week are the U.S. Air Force, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, the U.S. Government Accountability Office, DC Government, Booz Allen Hamilton, Grant Thornton, RSMeans Data from Gordian, 4tell Solutions, Uberlytics, and Andrew James Advisory Group.

This year also included, Raytheon, ABS Quality Evaluations, the Atlanta Airlines Terminal Company, staff from the U.S. House Committee on Infrastructure and Transportation, staff from U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, the University of the District of Columbia and others.

A highlight of the week was the presentation of an ISO 55001 certificate to Raytheon by ABS Quality Evaluations at a reception in the National Academy of Sciences. Other highlights included the introduction of ALN Español, the first of many “Asset Management Disasters” panels to come, the U.S. Air Force embrace of ISO 55000, the Department of State embrace of asset visualization planning processes, achievements of the GSA Public Building Services and the story of the Atlanta Airlines Terminal Company’s journey to ISO 55001 certification for its energy generation system as told by Gary Merrow, AATC Facility Manager.

The District of Columbia Government presented on its highly advanced, and repeatable, asset management initiatives. Beverly Lucas, Director of Continuing Education, University of the District of Columbia, presented on the District’s launch of a series of continuing education courses that combine the use of ISO 55000 to guide the freely available visualization tools and processes being used by federal agencies.

The Asset Leadership Network’s A55K Professional Certification, ABS Quality Evaluations’ certification to ISO 55001, and other development opportunities were presented.

It seems that again this year, we won’t realize the full impact of the event until some months from now, when new doors will open, new connections are announced, and business opportunities come to fruition.

Thanks to our volunteers, Board Members, Senior Fellows, and especially our Member Organizations, whose support made the 6th Asset Leadership Week an impactful success.
