Peter Kohler, has provided keen insights to ALN events and is a driving force behind the Value and Benefits from Asset Leadership web series co-host with Australia’s Asset Management Council. Mr. Kohler’s participation in ALN Th@3 pm ET this week will focus on why the co-hosted web series matters and why next week’s A Global Discussion on Value from Asset Management is so important at this juncture in the evolution of asset management around the world. Harvard Addresses its Legacy of Slavery

Last week, the oldest and most prestigious institute of higher learning in the U.S. issued a report that it benefited from slavery and is acting to corrective actions. The Report states that the Legacy includes “…vestiges of slavery and resistance to racial oppression during the early 20th century.” Such actions contributed to the systematic reduction of opportunity and wealth accumulation of African Americans. See the full report at this link. The report conclusion states “…an institution entangled with American slavery and its legacies … is now reckoning with this past and seeking to make amends for these wrongs.” Perhaps the Nation can learn from its oldest and most prestigious institute of higher education and determine how to manage its assets in a more just and equitable manner.

Marc Morial’s Opening Comments to Advancing Equity with Asset Leadership

portrait of marc morial

In light of Harvard’s report on its Legacy of Slavery, it is appropriate to review first ALN Advancing Equity with Asset Leadership web program featuring Marc Morial, President of the National Urban League and former Mayor of New Orleans. See the video at this link. Mr. Morial’s call for equitable decision making related to distribution of government assets is critical to improving the lives of all citizens. It is reassuring to know that the ALN continues to keep equity in the forefront of discussions about asset leadership and asset management in the U.S. and with our global colleagues.
