Newsletter 3 October 2023

Reporting from the exhibit floor of the Water Environment Federation convention, it good to know that one of our top global assets is being addressed in a robust way. ALN Member Organization MentorAPM is exhibiting, ALN supporter Hugh Sinclair, VP, Arcadis is presenting, and new colleagues are supporting ALN AiBrainSTORM – TreeSTORM and suggesting other ways to work together. It is exciting to see so many people interested in water asset management and understanding the concept of Asset Leadership!

This week on ALN Th@3 pm ET, new ALN Member Paul Daoust, Managing Director of SCIO Asset Management, will address advanced concepts on decision making and problem solving. See more below in People and register at this link.

The Andrew James Advisory Group is holding ALN A55K Professional Certification training September 18 – 29 & November 6 – 17. The web course provides thorough and meaningful understandings of the ISO 55000/1/2 asset management structure. The training involves recorded courses and readings as well as instructed web discussions. A final session involves creation of a Strategic Asset Management Plan that drives home the theory into a class activity that can be used directly at work.

Downtowns are Critical Assets

In August, we talked with Steve Wyton, Calgary’s Manager, Asset Management Planning, about revitalizing his downtown by doing the hard work of converting office building assets into residential building assets. A recent Washington Post article spells out why this is a challenge. But clearly, it is not impossible. Consider having the ALN help you present to your city why it should do the hard work of supporting conversion of office buildings to residential buildings so a vibrant downtowns can continue to enrich our cultural lives.
