People

Martin O’Malley was Governor of Maryland from 2007 – 2015 and currently is a visiting professor at The John Hopkins University’s Carey Business School focusing on government, business and urban issues. Governor O’Malley was also a two-term Mayor of Baltimore from 1999 – 2007. In 2019, he published his first book, “Smarter Government: How to Govern for Results in the Information Age.” In 2020, he published the companion piece, “Smarter Government Workbook: A 14-week Implementation Guide for Governing for Results.”  The web program will include a Grant Thornton executive and another ALN organizational member. Topics include using an equity lens on key performance metrics, developing dynamic dashboards to measure KPIs, leveraging GIS capabilities to identify underserved communities, actions to improve racial inequity and employing agile process to implement solutions. Annette Kampf-Dern focuses on Real Property as a Professor, most recently at Bauhaus Universitat Weimer and leads Germany’s Mirror Committee to the TC 251 Committee that writes the ISO 55K standards. She is a co-author of “The Future of Real Estate Education: A Multi-Faceted Perspective.” Professor Kampf-Dern has been observing ALN events for a while now and will provide a wealth of practical insights. $1 Billion Tech Fund for Federal Agencies

Just prior to the hack of the Colonial Pipeline announced last weekend, OMB and GSA prioritized distribution of $1 billion to bolster cybersecurity defenses, pandemic response and economic recovery. Cybersecurity can be incorporated in a Strategic Asset Management Plan, and proposals for such activity that are submitted at this link by June 2, 2021 will receive expedited priority. Funds will be distributed on a rolling basis from the Technology Modernization Fund, which is part of the American Rescue Plan that was signed into law on March 11, 2021. The Technology Modernization Fund (TMF) Board, will focus on projects that cut across agencies, address immediate security gaps, cross government services/infrastructure and improve the public’s ability to access government services. House T&I Committee Hearing on Post-COVID Real Estate

“Federal Real Estate Post-COVID-19 Part One: A View from The Private Sector” hearing will be webcast this coming Thursday 13 May at 2 pm Eastern. Facilitated by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Subcommitee Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management, the hearing will see members examining federal space needs in the post-COVID-19 world.
